gov/facilities/catawba/ Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Housekeeping Department establishes efficient and effective housekeeping requirements for health care delivery with the primary purpose of creating and maintaining an environment that is aesthetically clean at all times for the well-being of the patients, staff and visitors for Catawba Hospital.
Duties include but are not limited to: A.
Performance Management (for employees who supervise others) • Expectations are clear, well communicated, and relate to the goals and objectives of the department or unit; • Staff receive frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate; • Staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish goals; • The requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation; • Performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur.
• Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absences.
B.
Cleaning Patient / Administrative Areas • Perform a variety of cleaning tasks in assigned patient/administrative areas in a timely and successful manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include blood-borne pathogens and other related OSHA and EPA guidelines.
• Performs dust mopping/wet mopping daily applying proper cleaning techniques and proper use of germicidal chemicals and solutions.
• Ensures proper measures to avoid spills and displays precautions/safety signs to protect patients, staff and visitors from injury.
• Inspects assigned work area personal hygiene products (paper towels, soap, etc) and replenishes as needed.
• Ensures cleaning agents/equipment is stored properly and securely at all times and replenishes supplies as needed.
C.
Cleaning of Nursing and Patient Equipment • On a daily basis, sanitizes nursing/patient equipment in a timely manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Equipment includes but not limited to: wheelchairs, g-chairs/recliners, side tables, oxygen concentrator, IV poles, scales beds, med-cart wheels, etc.
• On a weekly basis, thoroughly cleans and disinfects, with germicidal disinfectants, equipment in a timely and successful manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include OSHA and EPA guidelines.
Equipment includes but not limited to: wheelchairs, g-chairs/recliners, side tables, oxygen concentrator, ice machines, refrigerators, etc.
• Records date of disinfectant cleaning of nursing/patient equipment on posted cleaning/disinfectant schedules.

Forwards completed documentation to appropriate staff in a timely manner.

Cleaning of Treatment Mall and Patient Equipment On a daily basis, sanitize Treatment Mall/Patient equipment in a timely manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Equipment includes but is not limited to: wheelchairs, stoves, sinks, tables, refrigerators, exercise equipment, vending areas, etc.
• On a weekly basis, thoroughly cleans and disinfects with germicidal disinfectants, Treatment Mall/ Patient equipment in a timely and successful manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include OSHA and EPA guidelines.
Equipment includes but not limited to: wheelchairs, ice machines, refrigerators, etc.
• Records date of disinfectant cleaning of Treatment Mall/ patient equipment on posted cleaning/disinfectant cleaning schedule.
Equipment to include but not limited to: wheelchairs, refrigerators, ice machines, etc.
As required.
Forwards completed documentation to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
E.
Cleaning of Administrative Offices and Living Quarters • Perform a variety of cleaning tasks in assigned administrative areas in a timely, successful and least disruptive manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include other OSHA and EPA guidelines.
• On a daily basis, thoroughly clean and disinfect with germicidal disinfectants, the MOD suite in a timely and successful manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniqu3s and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include other OSHA and EPA guidelines.
• On a weekly basis, thoroughly cleans and disinfects with germicidal disinfectants, the Chapel and Ewald Buildings in a timely and successful manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include OSHA and EPA guidelines.
• Once monthly, thoroughly cleans and disinfects with germicidal disinfectants, assigned apartments in a timely and successful manner, utilizing proper cleaning techniques and procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and safety regulations to include OSHA and EPA guidelines.
• Ensures proper measures to avoid spills and displays precautions/safety signs to protect patients, staff and visitors from injury.
• Inspects assigned work area, personal hygiene products (restroom products) and replenishes promptly.
• Ensures and maintains the confidentiality and security of documents/property in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
• Promptly reports needed maintenance/security issues to the Supervisor or Housekeeping office.
F.
Trash/Recycle Removal Soiled Linen Pick-Up • On a daily basis, performs timely trash and recycle removal from assigned areas and properly transports to assigned pick-up area.
• Ensures all trash/recycle bags are handled in a manner to prevent spills and storage area is secured from patient access.
• Cleans and sanitizes trash and recycle carts daily, adhering to policy and procedure guidelines.
• Performs soiled linen pick-up/removal as assigned adhering to safety practices and environmental procedures.
• Properly transports carts in accordance with all safety policies and care to prevent accidents with patients, staff and visitors.
Ensures storage area is secure at all times.
G.
Support/Security • Effectively interprets and follows direction of supervisor(s).
• Communicates clearly and concisely to patients/staff to ensure their safety.
• Through thorough cleaning, conveys an impression which favorably reflects the public relations of the organization.
• Closely monitors cleaning supplies/equipment while on duty and properly stores/secures them at the end of each shift.
• Performs other housekeeping duties as assigned and in compliance with established policies and procedures and safety guidelines including other OSHA and EPA guidelines.
H.
Movement of Furniture Special Function Setups.
• Performs a variety of furniture movement upon request, utilizing proper body mechanics/equipment, completing assignments in a timely, least disruptive manner and without destruction of State property.
• Performs special function area set-up(s), to include but not limited to, tables, chairs and equipment.
I.
Isolation Cleaning • Performs cleaning of isolation rooms, demonstrating thoroughness, utilizing cleaning industry specific guidelines and safety regulations to include blood-borne pathogens and other related OSHA and EPA guidelines and hospital policies and procedures.
• Properly handles and disposes of waste in identifiable bags in accordance with policies and procedures, safety recommendations and other related OSHA and EPA guidelines Minimum Qualifications Proficient use of cleaning equipment and supplies, including the preventive maintenance of equipment.
Knowledge and application of cleaning instructions according to policies and procedures.
Demonstrates competencies as defined on the attached form.
