Responsible for assessing patient’s eligibility for all available financial programs, ability to pay and available payment alternatives.
Determines patient eligibility and provides approval for Carilion’s Financial Assistance Program.
Makes financial arrangements for patients without insurance coverage; assists patients in obtaining financial sponsorship from outside agencies and charitable programs when financial need is indicated.
Researches and collects at point of service on bad debt accounts.
Collects patient portions and deposits from patients at the point of service.
Serves as a patient representative and advocate working with medical assistance offices and/or third parties in completing appropriate payment and application forms.
Pursues acceptance of eligibility and provides recommendations in order to maximize opportunities for reimbursement while minimizing the financial risk to the organization.
Will use discretion/or good judgement in unstructured situations.
Works in a fast-paced, office environment with high productivity and accuracy standards that requires focus and concentration on tedious details and research.
Effectively utilizes multiple resources to receive work.
Monitors and reviews accounts to determine appropriate action and follow-up.
Processes applications for Carilion’s Financial Assistance Program through completion.
Makes and communicates final status determination for Carilion’s Financial Assistance Program utilizing established criteria.
Gathers required documentation and completes required data entry into third party patient database as appropriate.
Maintains knowledge of benefit programs such as Medicaid, SSI/SSDI, Medicare, TANF, SNAP, Auxiliary Grant etc.
and assists patients in applying for these or other available benefits as appropriate.
Processes applications within the timeframes as indicated by application type.
Shares concerns identified along with suggested solutions with team lead/management for resolution.
Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures.
What We Require:
Education: High School graduate required; college course work preferred in Business or Accounting.
Experience: Two years within specified area or other applicable experience required.
Communication, analytical and problem-solving skills required.
Proficiency in EPIC Fundamentals preferred.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to meet high productivity and accuracy standards.
High focus and concentration needed for computer, analytical, organizational and time management required.
Visual perception and high hand/eye coordination necessary.
Requires excellent hearing, clear/concise speech, excellent finger dexterity to operation computer terminal/keyboarding as well as use of a calculator.
Must be proficient with word processing, computer/PC skills.
Excellent documentation and follow-u skills required.
