Job Description:
Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia.
The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge.

Advise students individually and/or with groups regarding core and/or major requirements, class selection, academic policies and procedures
Assist students in identifying short-term and long-term goals
Administer assessments of academic and nonacademic barriers, careers, etc.
Monitor students academic progress through faculty alerts and individual meetings
Facilitate financial aid and economic literacy activities including assisting with FAFSA completion and submission.
Perform program recruitment activities
Present workshops to program participants
Effectively maintain a caseload of program participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated through assessments
Document services to ensure compliance, confidentiality, and privacy in accordance with FERPA
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and facilitation skills
Minimum Qualifications:
This grant funded position requires the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree Required in education, social work, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a TRIO program, academic support program or a similar program for disadvantaged college students.
Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Project Participants
Knowledge of academic advising, and college, career, financial aid and economic literacy activities and related services for low-income and first-generation college students.
Knowledge of documenting services to ensure compliance, confidentiality, and privacy in accordance with FERPA.
Ability to effectively maintain a caseload of Project Participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated on their Individual Action Plan.
Ability to effectively instruct adult learners and the academically underprepared and track academic progress as indicated on their Academic Progress Plans.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and facilitation skills.
Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Project Participants.
