Attention R/C Pilots; please help my 90 year old dad fly! (Roanoke)

Okay, so I know this is an usual request.
I'll try to keep this brief.
I bought my now 90-year-old father a remote controlled high quality trainer and transceiver about three Christmases ago but he's been afraid to try to fly it because he doesn't want to damage it.
I've told him it can handle a few crashes and he's gone so far as to work a simulator designed for this transceiver and aircraft, which is electric btw.
However, his fear of this sort of thing goes back over 50 years to a point during which he crashed a Cox gasoline powered tethered aircraft that he purchased for me! This would be something really big and special for him if you can help.
