JOB DETAILS
12-hour night shift 6p-6a, 3 days on, 4 days off one week and then 4 days on, 3 days off the next.
A highly skilled and motivated individual proficient in all areas of the twin-screw extrusion operation.
Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, mentor and train employees on a regular basis.
The Extrusion Supervisor performs frontline supervisory functions and is responsible for safety, discipline, employee relations, housekeeping, and performance reviews of hourly employees as well as making recommendations to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
In addition, this position will actively encourage and support concepts of employee involvement, continuous improvement, 5S, and lean manufacturing concepts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Hands-on and leads a twelve (12) hour shift in PVC extrusion Directs all employees in the extrusion department to maintain safe work habits, 5S, quality standards, productivity procedures, and housekeeping Provide encouragement and praise to teammates who do well and counsel teammates when necessary to help them succeed in their jobs and find improvement opportunities Maintain verbal and written communications Proficient in 5S principles and techniques Examines and measures products to verify conformance to standards, using measuring devices, such as templates, gauges or calipers Reviews work orders, specifications, or instructions to determine materials, ingredients, procedures, components, settings, and adjustments for extruding equipment Adjusts machine components to regulate speed, pressure, and temperature of machine, and amount, dimensions, and flow of materials or ingredients Monitors machine operations and observes indicator lights and gauges to detect malfunctions Maintains a working knowledge of Company Policies and Procedures Maintain records and data log sheets Troubleshoot tooling and extruder processing as well as to apply proper solutions Implements and maintains metrics and key process indicators to monitor process quality, machine efficiency and utilization Communicate with upper management on production status and time frames Yearly cross-training / training in areas of Quality, Tool & Die, Line Operation, Compound Blending and Maintenance Qualifications Excellent attendance record Safety oriented Proficient in 5S principles Upper level mathematical and mechanical skills required Effective communication (oral and written) Proficient in use of calipers and other measuring devices Ability to provide hands-on technical support in a production environment Completion of secondary school.
Post secondary education in sciences, engineering, industrial or plastics technology is a plus Knowledge of PVC resin / compound blending a plus Previous supervisory and or management experience a plus Bilingual English / Spanish skills a plus Walks / stands 12 hours.
Frequently lifts 0-10 lbs.
Occasionally lifts 10-20 lbs.
frequently carries 0-10 lbs; occasionally carries 10-20 lbs.
Frequently bends, squats, climbs, kneels, twists, push/pull and reach overhead.
Must use hands frequently for grasping, fine manipulation and push/pulling.
Periodically uses foot controls Can work in hot environment Holds shift meetings for Safety and Production items as instructed by the manager Ensuring Continuous Improvements Develop and train teammates so they are prepared to assume positions of increasing responsibilities.
Evaluate teammates at least annually and give feedback to perform better Interrupt the normal flow of work to respond to any short notice production or shipping needs Counsel and discipline employees as needed Use a forklift or other lifting / transporting devices Maintain a high degree of leadership and supervisory skills Ability to effectively train other operators in line operation, tooling and troubleshooting High degree of current quality standards and checks Use statistics or SPC to help better control the extrusion process Knowledge of work orders, schedules and priorities and ability to carry out those tasks High degree of communication skills to accomplish seamless shift changes and troubleshooting progress Knowledge and understanding of all safety policies and regulations and to be able to address all unsafe acts and conditions Ability to promote overall goals of company in safety, quality, delivery and cost Job subordinates may include: Group Leads, Production Associates, Operators, Material Handlers, Compounders and Production Mechanics Performs other assignments as directed Additional Information Site Address: 433 N.
