The Position: Safety and Training Manager

Responsibilities
Develops, implements, and monitors a formal safety program for the site that focuses on accident prevention and safety awareness.
Performs annual risk and ergonomic assessments of all workstations and makes recommendations for improvement to the management team.
Investigates safety reports, incidents and accidents following formal investigation methods, defines and implements corrective actions and prepares written incident reports as appropriate.
Identifies opportunities for improvement in safety, security and ergonomics and drives workshops and initiatives for implementation.
Records information on accidents and incidents in the organization’s electronic safety platform (RIS/RAST) and ensures the database is up to date.
Prepares all relevant OSHA reporting including the annual OSHA log 300 and ensures posting throughout the facility that is compliant with OSHA regulations.
Collaborates with the OSHA Representative in any formal investigations and ensures implementation of any formal findings and stipulations.
Files workers compensation claims via the applicable portal and collaborates with HR to provide modified duty assignments for injured workers.
Ensures compliance with all OSHA and internal safety policies and regulations.
Leads regular orientation events to welcome new employees including the training of new hires on safety standard and company policies.
Oversees the formal training of direct labor associates, both new hires and veteran employees including training content, associate development, and maintains documentation records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to assertively communicate and enforce safety and company policies to a diverse workforce.
Excellent interpersonal skills such as active listening and empathy with the ability to relate to individuals from different backgrounds and situations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate a variety of situations through different means and methods.
Possesses the ability to meet deadlines by managing tasks accordingly and the ability to make decisions and compromises even with only limited available information.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, (Microsoft Excel, Power point, Word).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety, or related field.
5+ years of professional experience in a safety function, preferably in the manufacturing or automotive industry.
2+ years of professional experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a safety department or manufacturing setting.
Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations and procedures.
OSHA 30 certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to spend multiple hours a day standing, walking, and working on the production floor.
Ability to occasionally withstand loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
Ability to occasionally bend, kneel and climb in and out of workstations and work areas.
Ability to lift 50 lbs at a time.
