*Description* The City of Roanoke is seeking an HVAC Operations Specialist for the Berglund Center to lead a team of HVAC professionals.
The successful applicant will troubleshoot complicated and sophisticated HVAC systems and oversee installation of HVAC systems including direct digital controls.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four year college or university with major work in environmental science, engineering, construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures and/or public health, and five or more years of progressive responsible work experience with complex HVAC systems and equipment including chillers, boilers, package units, VAV systems, direct digital and pneumatic control systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
HVAC Journeyman certification.

*Examples of Duties* *ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Monitors the work of HVAC and other trades technicians as assigned Ensures work is performed in compliance with applicable laws, pertinent rules and regulations, guidelines, safety orders, and departmental operating procedures and safety regulations Develops and maintains a preventive maintenance schedule program for equipment and machinery.
Ensures required OSHA and other mandated training and certifications are completed by assigned staff Monitors and assist with installs, troubleshooting and repairing of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration units including chillers, boilers, heat pumps and direct digital and pneumatic control systems.
Performs scheduled maintenance inspections, and adjust, cleans and calibrates various systems to ensure proper system operations Monitors repairs to wiring and electronic components associated with automated building management systems.
Ensures checks on distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, pressure, etc.
Other duties as assigned *SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES* Supervises HVAC professionals, technicians, journeyman and workers.

*MATHEMATICAL SKILLS* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as percentages, units of measure, and statistics.
Ability to conduct and apply basic computations and unit conversions.
*REASONING ABILITY* Ability to apply sound professional judgment and practices to solve problems where limited standardization or data exist.
Ability to interpret a variety of technical material, guidance, and/or instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to appropriately assess and respond appropriately to spills, incidents, and other emergencies.
Ability to explain complex technical information to a wide variety of audiences, and to adapt communications style and substance accordingly.
*CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS* Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
HVAC Journeyman certification.
