Position Summary
We are looking to add a self-motivated, customer service oriented technician to our Roanoke, VA team.
Repairs will typically be performed in the field.
Essential functions and accountabilities will be:
Perform mechanic duties adhering to areas of service, quality, safety, and overall effectiveness related to Key Performance Indicators.
This includes ownership for downtime and accountability for timely availability of the equipment.
Adhere to performance and safety standards in all areas of the shop.
Enhance service department and organization’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Reporting Structure
The Field Technician will report directly to the Service Manager.
This person is also expected to interface with other management, including the leaders of the different business divisions.
Essential Functions & Major Accountabilities
Previous demonstration of successful mechanic experience.
Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
Gas, stick welding, fabrication, and torch use.
Familiarity with diesel engine repair and maintenance, including OSHA regulations
Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
Operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.
Communicate effectively with manager, colleagues, and clients.
Must have ability to read, understand, and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and manufacturer written service manuals.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Troubleshooting via determining causes of operating errors and appropriate solutions.
Read, understand, and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and manufacturer written service manuals.
Maintain thorough and accurate service related documents.
Requirements – Knowledge, Skills & Accountabilities
Ability to work independently and on-site, with no assistance needed in troubleshooting and performing repairs.
Comprehensive knowledge of general mechanics, including brakes, drive train, A/C and heat, cooling systems, electrical components, electronics (ECM, Body Controls), steering and suspension, diesel components, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and welding abilities.
Ability to perform component exchanges/repairs.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Knowledge of both gas and diesel engines.
Must be familiar with heavy equipment repair and maintenance, including OSHA regulations.
Knowledge of agricultural and construction equipment required, including transmissions, engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Must be an analytical minded individual with attention to detail.
Ability to multitask, support projects, and meet deadlines while keeping a solution focused mindset.
Must demonstrate a sense of urgency and ownership to drive projects to completion.
Must be a positive minded individual with problem solving ability.
Communicate effectively with manager, colleagues, and clients.
Education/Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous demonstration of successful mechanic experience.
Experience operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.
Experience with over the road truck is a plus.
Must have own tools.
2-3 years of mechanic experience.
Must have the ability to lift up to 75lbs.
Valid driver’s license is required, along with the ability to obtain a CDL.
Welding experience is a plus.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow through skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and results-oriented environment, and be flexible/adaptable to change.
Excellent computer skills essential for success in this role.
Must have advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office products.
