JOB Parks & RecreationThe City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to perform skilled turf maintenance including mowing, weed-eating, edging, leaf mulching, aerating, fertilizing, and seeding.
The successful applicant must have knowledge of and ability to skillfully operate and do routine daily service and maintenance on a wide variety of mowers and equipment, including Groundsmaster 580D, Ventrac, zero turn and walk-behind mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, blowers, pickups, dump trucks, box trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, bobcat and tractor and must be able to perform semi-skilled landscape maintenance, including chemical spraying, minor tree and shrub pruning, brush removal, mulching and other landscape maintenance duties.
They also must have the ability to perform word processing, record keeping and report preparation on a computer and effectively use basic office equipment including computers, calculators, copiers, cell phones and mobile radios; be able to operate heavy and light equipment for snow removal; be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Learner's Permit prior to starting work, be able to obtain a full CDL license within 6 months; and be able to obtain a Registered Technician Spraying License within 6 months and a Fertilizer Applicator Certification within 12 months.
High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or one to three years related experience and/or training in turf or landscape maintenance, one to three years related experience and/or training in the operation of medium to heavy motorized equipment and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Trails & GreenwaysThe City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the Trails & Greenways to perform manual labor in the completion of park cleaning, shelter and restroom cleaning, debris removal and amenity maintenance on park grounds; assists with setup and breakdown of special events.
Typical tasks include picking up trash and debris, amenity installation and repair, general landscape maintenance, cleaning and maintenance of courts, bench and table repair, light carpentry, concrete repair and related tasks.
Assists with the loading and unloading of materials such as soil, mulch and gravel; as needed.
Provides logistical support to special events as needed.
Operates and maintains various types of power tools such as hand tools, blowers, weed eaters, power washers, and painting equipment.
Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Learner's Permit prior to starting work, and be able to obtain a full CDL license within 6 months.
