Position Summary The Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools, and conforms to local building codes.
Duties/Responsibilities Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated Selects specified type of lumber or other materials Prepares layout using rule, framing square, and calipers Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, and door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level May weld metal parts to steel structural members Gathers and classifies information about data, people, or things Attends to work orders per supervisors’ instruction Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent High School level mathematic and language (reading/writing/listening) skills At least 4 years of prior carpentry experience Competencies Strong Relationships Ownership and Accountability Exceptionalism in all we do Travel Supervisory Responsibility Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
They will need to stand (approximately 80%) and walk (approximately 20%).
The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear.
The employee will need to be able to carry up to 100lbs, lift up to 100lbs, and move up to 200lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
