Job Summary:
Responsible for the quality assurance of maintenance, installation, and repair activity for FTTH services in the Shentel FTTH systems.
Supports the safety review of both internal and external persons performing work for Shentel.
Conducts assessments on persons climbing and performing maintenance, installation, and repair activity on Shentel FTTH systems.
May be required to assist in the installation of Shentel FTTH video , broadband internet access and voice services.
Supports system troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs from the customer premises to the head end / IP Hub location including all active and passive devices.
Daily contact with customer concerning service problems and installation of equipment as well as clearing network and customer troubles.
Working conditions include climbing, bucket truck operation, working at heights, driving approximately 50 to 100 miles a day and working diverse hours.
Qualification Requirements:
a.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
b.
Experience Level: 5 years of CATV, wireline and fiber optic installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
c.
Special Requirements: Ability to read and comprehend written materials.
Ability to communicate in both face-to-face and non-face-to-face situations.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and transport 200 feet.
Ability to work aloft on ladder or bucket truck, as well as underground while using power tools.
d.
Experience with digital CATV systems, IP Video, Optical installation and troubleshooting.
e.
Competent in fiber optic theory and fiber cable system operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
f.
Skills Summary: PC skills utilizing laptop devices and basic software applications (MS Word, Excel, Web Browse).
g.
Valid Driver’s license required.
Knowledge of:
a.
Telecommunications concepts, CATV, fiber optic and coaxial transport systems, electricity and
electronics.
b.
Troubleshooting skills in fiber optic systems using experience and test equipment.
c.
Skills: Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and staff, as well as 3rd party vendors and other utilities.
